Martin O'Malley's policies onHealthcare

Honor patients’ wishes at the end of life

Fewer than half of older Americans have articulated and placed in their medical records a statement of their goals, priorities, and preferences to guide their care providers and their families in shaping their care near the end of life. O’Malley will encourage physicians to speak with their patients regarding end of life care, make templates for completing advance directives available for free, and support the implementation of patient wishes across all health care settings.
